Greenwood’s superb performance followed up his previous scintillating display in which he scored two goals for his side in their 12-0 thumping of Tardienta in the Copa Del Rey.

The United academy graduate has now managed an impressive three goals and two assists in nine appearances for Getafe across all competitions.

He is certainly enjoying life in Spain.

During the 86 minutes he was on the pitch against Cadiz, Greenwood registered 50 touches of the ball.

He successfully delivered 22 of the 29 passes he attempted, managing a pass accuracy of 76%. He made one key pass.

The 22-year-old tried to find his target with four crossing attempts but was unsuccessful on all four occasions.

Greenwood pinged five long balls to his teammates. Three of his five attempts were accurate, in a solid show of his technical ability.

The United loanee created one big chance and blocked two shots.

He embarked on five dribbles and came out on top four times. He delved into 12 ground duels and won five of these. He did not win the one aerial duel he was required to contest.

Manchester United’s turbulent summer including the club making a decision on the Mason Greenwood saga, opting to send the forward out on loan to continue his development away from Old Trafford.

Greenwood was shipped to Spanish side Getafe on a season-long deal and the forward has settled in well on the continent.

As reported by The Sun, the 22-year-old was part of Getafe’s 12-0 dismantling of minnows Tardienta in the Copa del Rey, yesterday (Wednesday).

Greenwood scored twice in the rout before being replaced on the hour to save his legs for the weekend fixture against Cadiz.

The United man’s brace came in the fashion of two tidy close-range finishes, putting his side 2-0 and 6-0 up, respectively.

Greenwood also played his part in a couple of the other Getafe goals, jinking past Tardienta defenders almost at will, with the gulf in class apparent throughout.

The forward is enjoying life in Spain and is reportedly open to making his stay a permanent one, at the end of his current deal.

Greenwood will be desperate to get back to form and fitness having played his last game for United back in early 2022.

United were left with little option but to move Greenwood away from the club given the nature of the well-publicized reasons for his omission from the playing squad for 18 months.

Should Greenwood continue his form in Spain, United will likely look to negotiate a fee with interested parties at the end of the current campaign.

No official communication has been made by United regarding the future of the player but it would be a surprise to see Greenwood play for his boyhood side again

Greenwood played 129 times for United, scoring 35 goals and contributing 12 assists.

One among that army is Alvaro Fernandez whose name has been cropping up regularly now that United have a crisis at left-back.

The Spaniard is on loan at Granada in La Liga and recently had a baptism of fire against FC Barcelona.

Granada got a great result with a 2-2 draw against Los Cules but for Alvaro Fernandez, it was a bittersweet outing against one of world football’s greatest rising talents- Lamine Yamal.

All of Fernandez’s usual attributes were on display, in defence and in attack.

While he seemed industrious and exciting on the rare occasion he ventured forward, his defensive game left a lot to be desired.

Yamal was recognised as the Man of the Match for his goalscoring effort as Fernandez switched off on his man, leading to Yamal scoring a tap-in at his post.

Granada were leading 2-0 at that point but Yamal’s goal at the stroke of half-time spurred them on to snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat.

He wasn’t really involved much in the passing game as Barcelona hogged the majority of possession.

None of his crosses or long balls were accurate but he did manage to complete two out of three dribbles attempted as Granada tried to use him as an outlet against Catalans’ suffocating press.

Overall, it was a performance that showed both, the best and worst of Fernandez. United will hope that he learns from this experience and comes back to United a more complete player by getting these mistakes out of his system on loan.

In what was his fifth game for the Spanish outfit, Greenwood found himself at the far post, from where he was able to fire the ball into the back of the net from close range.

The Englishman’s goal temporarily handed 10-man Getafe a 2-1 lead.

However, they were pegged back just before the interval courtesy of Celta’s Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Eventually, both sides shared the spoils.

Greenwood played for 60 minutes. Currently, Getafe sit in 11 position in La Liga heading into the two-week international break.

Their draw against Celta was their fourth of the season.

During the time he was on the pitch, Greenwood completed one of the two dribbles he embarked on.

He only had 13 touches of the ball and managed to successfully deliver five of the six passes he attempted.

The forward won one of the five ground duels he delved into and failed to come out on top in the one aerial challenge he was required to contest in the air.

Greenwood will be hoping that his first goal for his loan club will open the floodgates for many more to come this campaign.

The 21-year-old is of course not expected to play for United ever again after his parent club determined that it was no longer feasible for the player to continue with his career at Old Trafford.

Brandon Williams has overcome a tough debut at Ipswich Town to become an undisputed first-team member and he has now marked his rise with a sensational solo goal.

Kieran McKenna’s side brushed aside Preston 4-2 in an entertaining game which will be remembered for Williams’ sensational solo effort.

Williams was aggressive in his tackle and smartly nicked the ball away from the Preston player deep in his own half.

From there on, he went on a slaloming run down the right side before piercing into the box and hitting a low drive with his right foot in the far bottom corner.

It was Williams’ second goal in Ipswich colours as he is enjoying life under former United coach McKenna at high-flying Ipswich.

United have not included a mandatory buy option in the deal so the better he performs, the more is the chance for the club to make a good profit from his sale.

Moreover, he is already a crucial member of the first team at Ipswich and has worked under McKenna before, making it an ideal move for both parties.

The perfect scenario for United would be for Ipswich to get promoted and gain the riches that come with it so that they can extract a good fee for the player.

Ipswich do have the option to buy the player wherein United can trigger the one-year optional extension in his contract to extend it to 2025, thereby stopping him from leaving on a free transfer.

Injuries have not helped the manager, with the defence suffering the most. The Dutchman has never managed to field his first-choice back-four this season due to injury.

One of the areas most badly affected is at left-back with all three players currently sidelined. Tyrell Malacia was the first to suffer an injury, which has seen him miss the entire pre-season and all games so far.

Luke Shaw, the first-choice left-back, is yet to play since the Tottenham Hotspur game and these two long-term injuries forced the club to dip into the market towards the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

A lot of candidates were scrutinised, but in the end, it was Spurs star Sergio Reguilon who arrived on deadline day but after a couple of promising displays, he suffered a hamstring injury as well.

He is not expected to be back before the international break, with right-back Diogo Dalot filling in at one point while currently, midfield Sofyan Amrabat has been forced to play there.

The club have suffered because of the Moroccan’s inability to play there, which was meant to happen against the big teams and the manager must be ruing his luck.

Interestingly, Ten Hag had the option of playing academy graduate Alvaro Fernandez in that position but he chose to send him out on loan to Granada, thinking he was not quite ready for the step-up.

Maybe a break clause in his contract would have allowed the Spaniard to return to Old Trafford during such an emergency. But United never included such a clause. The earliest United can recall him is in January.

Fernandez has enjoyed a decent spell in La Liga so far, featuring in three of the five league matches he has been eligible for since joining.

The 26-year-old Reguilon had missed 29 games for Atletico Madrid last season during his loan there and United should have realised the injury worries associated with Reguilon before signing him.

Williams was loaned to Ipswich just hours before news broke that Luke Shaw had suffered an inury that would keep him out of action until November.

The United forward is at Getafe where he made his debut on September 17 with an impressive performance against Osasuna where he forced the corner which led to his team’s winner in a 3-2 victory.

However, he has been brought back down to earth as his side lost to Real Sociedad 3-4 despite a late goal by Juanmi Latasa.

Greenwood came on as a substitute in the 68th minute for Djene Dakonam and immediately slotted in on the right side of the attack.

Getafe were trailing 2-3 when he was subbed on but didn’t contribute much as he remained on the periphery of this game.

He showed off a couple of nice touches in the attacking areas and tested the goalkeeper with a good strike late into the game.

Another sighter at goal in the dying embers of the game summed up the match for him as he failed to bring his team back in front and repeat his Osasuna heroics.

Greenwood has now come off the bench in two consecutive games to get minutes under his belt.

Considering his quality and impact in both games, especially against Osasuna, it would be a safe bet to think that his debut start for the club is coming soon.

Manager Erik ten Hag is being put under immense pressure by the British media with stories of dressing room unrest doing the rounds.

The team is currently decimated with injuries with the list extensive enough to prepare an entire XI including not having his first-choice full-backs.

United’s LB search

Left-back was a major issue in the closing stages of the summer transfer window with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both ruled out of action till November.

Ten Hag was forced to play Diogo Dalot as the emergency left-back in games but Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s subsequent injury has meant the Portuguese has shifted to the right-back spot.

United, after letting go of Brandon Williams on loan, were without a specialist senior left-back which prompted the club to sign Sergio Reguilon on deadline day.

The manager had the option of playing academy graduate Alvaro Fernandez in that position, who had come back to the team after excelling out on loan at Championship side Preston North End.

He was selected for United’s pre-season squad and played the opening two games but did not play for the first team in the USA which indicated he might not be ready for a jump to the first team on a consistent basis.

With Champions League games to come, Ten Hag knew opportunities would be scarce and thought it would be best for the youngster to gather more experience.

A lot of clubs were interested in permanent deals for the Spaniard including La Liga team Granada where he ultimately joined on loan.

The player admitted that his loan club tried their best to agree a loan deal with an option to buy but United flat-out refused.

“Manchester United rejected it and no agreement was reached,” he told reporters during his official unveiling. This indicates that United still think highly of him and that eventually a first-team place is up for grabs.

Playing for Granada, who are currently in the relegation zone, will be a great test and will show how ready he is for top-level football with the threat of relegation hanging over the club’s head.
