Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund produced an impressively impactful performance for Denmark in their 3-1 Euro Qualifier win against Kazakhstan.

Goals from Jonas Wind and a brace from Robert Skov were enough to secure the win for Denmark. The victory was the fifth out of seven matches so far for Denmark.

As it stands, Kasper Hjulmand’s side sit in second place in Group H, only behind Slovenia on goal difference.

United midfielder Christian Eriksen, who recently opened up on his reduced role at United this season, also played a key role.

Hojlund was instrumental in one of the goals as his team ran rampant against Kazakhstan in Copenhagen. The striker’s biggest contribution was an assist for Skov’s first goal.

The United man picked the ball up before embarking on a driving run towards goal. He brilliantly used a piece of skill to get past his marker before picking out Skov at the back post with a stunning cross.

During the 90 minutes he was on the pitch, Hojlund managed two shots at goal, both of which were off-target.

The 20-year-old blocked one shot.

He successfully completed the one dribble he attempted. Hojlund also created one big chance.

The United number 11 registered 46 touches of the ball. He delivered 22 of the 28 passes he tried, managing a pass accuracy of 79%.

Two of his 22 successful passes were key passes.

An attribute of Hojlund’s game that has impressed United fans is his work rate and propensity to get involved in defensive play.

Against Kazakhstan, the Dane won four of the eight ground duels he delved into. In the air, he was required to contest two challenges. He came out on top on one occasion.

(Stats obtained from Sofascore)

Hojlund is certainly developing well and it’s encouraging to see that he is doing just as well for his country as he is for his club. No doubt he will be looking to get on the score sheet when Denmark play San Marino on Tuesday.

The international break is proving to be particularly fruitful for some Manchester United players, while unlucky for others.

Scott McTominay almost scored a golazo against Spain which was contentiously ruled out but now his club midfielder partner Christian Eriksen has played a blinder for Denmark.

The Dane was the creative heartbeat for his team as Denmark achieved a convincing 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan in the Euro qualifiers.

A brace from Robert Skov and a goal by Jonas Wind sealed the deal, but every dangerous attack by the Danes went through Eriksen.

He finished the game with one assist, for Denmark’s third goal, but completely stamped his authority on the game holistically.

He had 104 touches of the ball as Denmark bossed possession to the tune of 64%.

Five key passes, five accurate long balls, and one big chance created, summed up a game for Eriksen in which he showed every facet of his game. (Stats courtesy of Sofascore)

There were long passes to switch the play conducted with extreme smoothness, slide rule passes to unlock the defence, as well as nifty footwork to evade the press in midfield.

Denmark play San Marino next and considering the strength of the opposition, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Eriksen sits this one out.

He has started to increase his importance at the club after starting the season playing deputy to midfield of Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, and Casemiro.

A couple of recent cameos off the bench have turned the game in United’s favour so the player will look to take his international form back to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag could definitely use him even more now, with Casemiro suffering an ankle injury during the international break.

Manchester United midfield maestro had a memorable outing in the international break as his Portugal side qualified for Euros 2024.

The creative midfielder played a key role in downing Slovakia 3-2, as he assisted two goals, and was an all-around nuisance for the Slovakians to deal with.

The assists were for Goncalo Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo, with the latter sealing the victory after Slovakia had made the score 2-1 and arranged a nervy finish.

Fernandes will particularly remember his second assist, as United fans could see glimpses of why Erik ten Hag deploys him on the right wing sometimes.

He had a smooth 1-2 on the right wing before arriving on the box, putting his head up, and finding Ronaldo with an inch-perfect grounded cross on the far post.

Ronaldo just had to tap it into a gaping net as Portugal were on their way, leading 3-1 at the time.

Former United player Ronaldo bagged a brace but Fernandes was the team’s star performer.

Even beyond his two assists, the United player was everywhere in an attacking sense.

He had 78 touches of the ball and was his usual risky self as he finished with a passing accuracy of just 77%. However, almost every big chance created by Portugal came from audacious passes by Fernandes.

He finished the game with five key passes (passes that lead to a chance), three big chances created, and three shots on target. (Stats courtesy of Sofascore)

He missed the opportunity to have his hand in three goals, missing a big chance of his own.

Portugal’s next fixture is away to Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 16 but as they have already qualified for the Euros, United fans will hope their midfield maestro is rested for that one.

A lengthy injury list has derailed Erik ten Hag’s second season at Manchester United and this international break is set to bring more bad news to the club.

Brazil manager Fernando Diniz revealed to Globo Esporte that Casemiro asked to come off the pitch during Brazil’s game against Venezuela after suffering a blow to his ankle.

“Casemiro asked to leave due to a blow to his ankle,” he said in his post-match comments.

Casemiro is a key player for Brazil and the Selecao went on to concede an equaliser in the dying embers of the game in his absence.

Moreover, despite his recent patchy form, he remains one of Ten Hag’s most trusted lieutenants so updates on his issue will be nervously awaited by the club as well.

In terms of squad depth, this is one step forward, two steps back for United.

Mason Mount has returned from a long injury layoff while Sofyan Amrabat has been thrust into an intense workload despite just recovering from injury.

Kobbie Mainoo is on the road to recovery but the blow due to Casemiro’s potential absence is hard to fill.

He remains the only natural defensive midfielder in the squad despite his recent attacking endeavours.

After facing Venezuela in a gruelling atmosphere, Uruguay is next up for them as the fixture list won’t get any easier.

United fans will be waiting with bated breath to see if Casemiro is involved in that game in some capacity.

United resume their season with an away fixture against Sheffield United on October 21. Therefore, Casemiro could be facing a race against time to get fit for that one.

A number of Manchester United players have been in action for their countries in the Women’s Nations League this past week.

Maya Le Tissier, Katie Zelem, Ella Toone and Mary Earps were all called up for the England Lionesses, who had a mixed start to their campaign.

They faced Scotland in their opening game, and beat their old rivals 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.

Zelem played a lovely long ball to pick out Lucy Bronze for England’s opening goal before Lauren Hemp doubled their lead.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United star, Kirsty Hanson gave Scotland hope in stoppage time at the end of the first half as she pulled one back.

On their second outing, the Lionesses battled against Sarina Wiegman’s former team, the Netherlands.

This time, the Lionesses were on the wrong end of a 2-1 score line in Utrecht.

As the visitors tried to play out from the back, the Netherlands pressed well and intercepted in the final third.

Though it looked like Van de Donk received the ball in an offside position the flag stayed down as she played it back to Martens who looped it over the retreating Earps.

It was just what the hosts deserved who had been the better side for the opening 35 minutes.

It woke England up who responded by hitting the woodwork.

In the second half the reigning European Champions found a way back as another former United player, Alessia Russo found the back of the net.

It was England who had the better chances after that but the Dutch keeper, Daphne van Domselaar, who has just signed for Aston Villa, pulled off some impressive saves to deny the Lionesses.

It was the hosts who snatched the tie in the dying moments of the game as Greenwood gave the ball away in the centre of the pitch.

Jansen made a good run and smashed it into the top corner.

Elsewhere, United’s new signing Gemma Evans and Hayley Ladd were part of the Wales squad who suffered a 5-1 defeat to Denmark in Cardiff.

They also suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Iceland last Friday in their Nations League group game.

It was better news for Spain who beat Sweden 3-2 last week in a thrilling match up.

They then smashed five past Switzerland with United’s Lucia Garcia getting on the scoresheet.

It will be a quick turnaround for the international Reds as the domestic season kicks off on Sunday, when United will travel to Villa for their opening WSL game.

The international break is almost over and Manchester United will be back in action soon, against Brighton and Hove Albion on September 16.

Many United players have had a sterling international break, with Christian Eriksen being the creator-in-chief for Denmark, and Scott McTominay as the scoring leader for Scotland.

Some haven’t had a good time, with Harry Maguire, in particular, forcing his manager to leap in his defence after an own goal against Scotland.

However, one player flew under the radar, and he put in lukewarm performances in both games- Marcus Rashford.

After an energetic performance off the bench against Ukraine, he was given a starting berth against Scotland but he had a forgettable outing.

Starting as the left-sided forward in a 4-2-3-1, his preferred role, he failed to stand out in an attacking display that yielded three goals for England.

During his 71 minutes on the pitch, he only had 44 touches of the ball as he was largely peripheral during every dangerous attack.

England eventually funnelled most of their threat from the right wing, where Manchester City’s Phil Foden was running the show, also scoring a goal.

Rashford’s usual explosive dribbling was also absent. He attempted just two dribbles in 71 minutes and succeeded in completing only one of those. (Stats courtesy of Sofascore)

Although he made three key passes, his performance in relation to his talent left a lot to be desired.

There were a few smart runs which created space for his teammates and a few clever flicks and tricks but more is expected of Rashford.

Erik ten Hag and Manchester United will hope for a better outing from Rashford when the Premier League action begins because England can handle a slack performance from him, but at United, he’s almost a one-man attack at times.

Three Manchester United players were in action today as England beat China 6-1 in the final group game of the Women’s World Cup.

Katie Zelem made her major tournament debut as she entered the starting line up for the injured Keira Walsh.

Though she didn’t get an assist or a goal it couldn’t have gone any better for the United skipper.

She finished the game with an 88% pass accuracy, 100% accuracy with her long ball deliveries and winning two thirds of her aerial and ground duels.

The Oldham-born midfielder was praised throughout by commentator and Chelsea manager Emma Hayes for her calmness in that position and strong link up play.

She was also vital in set-piece deliveries, sharing the load with former United teammate Alex Greenwood.

Former Red, Alessia Russo opened the scoring for the Lionesses in the fourth minute, controlling the ball well in the area before slotting it past Zhu.

Another ex-United player, Lauren James, put in a player-of-the-match performance scoring two sublime goals, with a third being ruled out by VAR and getting a hat-trick of assists.

Earps was first called into action in the 53rd minute when a long range shot came in from China that was creeping into the bottom corner.

Earps got down low to push it wide for a corner. The delivery came in and was deemed to be a hand ball by Lucy Bronze, a lengthy VAR check awarded China a lifeline in the form of a penalty.

Earps, who had had little to do, couldn’t save the penalty and it was 3-1.

She would show why she is the best in the world later on though as she pulled off a lovely diving save to her left to deny China a second goal creeping into the bottom corner.

England went on to score a number of fantastic, technically perfect goals with Daly finishing things off by latching on to a cross from Coombs, volleying it past Zhu.

Toone was dropped from the starting line up but entered the fray after 81 minutes, playing with hunger and confidence in the closing stages of a superb match.

Scotland completed a famous comeback to secure a 2-1 victory away to Norway in their European Championship Qualification match yesterday evening, with Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay playing a vital role.

A penalty from Erling Haaland after an hour of toing and froing between the sides looked to have sealed the win for the Norwegians before a two-minute double salvo from The Tartans put them in command of Group A late in the day.

Queens Park Rangers striker Lyndon Dykes will likely get the plaudits for his contribution to both goals, but McTominay was crucial to Scotland’s disciplined performance over the course of the game.

In an evening in which Scotland struggled to retain possession, Scott McTominay was vital in providing composure on the ball.

He ended the match with a remarkable 96.9% passing accuracy and completed every long pass he attempted.

But it was his role in breaking up play and shielding his defence via astute positioning where he excelled yesterday.

McTominay made five interceptions against Norway – more than any player on the pitch – as he helped Scotland keep their hosts at arms length.

The United academy graduate has played in a number of positions for his nation, but his role in the team today was clear: win the ball and keep in ticking over. He did it with aplomb.

It is a role that many Red Devils fans will once have hoped that he could be moulded into at club level, although the positional awareness and ball retention on show from McTominay yesterday has been a rare sight at Old Trafford.

His performances when standing in for Casemiro last season were fairly underwhelming and at times frustrating, although in his defence, he very rarely started back-to-back games after the World Cup, much less enjoyed a run in the team.

It is largely for that reason that McTominay has been linked with a move away from United this summer, with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe a known admirer.

Performances like yesterday’s should serve as a reminder that Scott McTominay can be a valuable asset to plenty of teams, and Manchester United will hope that – should a parting of the ways come about – they receive a fee reflective of his capabilities. Ten Hag will need every penny he can get to challenge Manchester City next season, after all.

The Netherlands suffered defeat at the hands of Croatia in the Nations League semifinal last night, ending their dreams of a second final out of three in the competition.

Luka Modric inspired the Croatians to a 4-2 extra-time win in Rotterdam.

Donyell Malen gave the home side the lead before Croatia hit back through second half goals from Andrej Kramaric and Mario Pasalic.

Noa Lang equalised in stoppage time to send the game to extra-time but a Bruno Petković strike and a Modric penalty sealed the impressive win for Croatia.

Manchester United’s Tyrell Malacia endured a horrific cameo for The Netherlands, coming off the bench in extra-time to give away the penalty for Croatia’s killer fourth.

Malacia lunged in with a desperate, wild challenge on Petković and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Player of the Match Modric stroked home to put the tie beyond doubt.

The United man was also weak in his duels during his 15 mins on the pitch, losing three of four ground duels and getting beaten in his only aerial battle.

The only solace for Malacia comes in the fact that he can now get on his summer holiday and recharge for the new season.

The left-back enjoyed a solid first season in Manchester, keeping Luke Shaw on his toes and providing adequate cover for the Englishman when he was missing.

Malacia was Ten Hag’s first signing at the club and the boss will be hoping for an equally busy summer window this time around as well.

Wout Weghorst also played the best part of an hour for The Netherlands after coming on as sub midway through the second half.

However the big striker was largely ineffective, losing possession 10 times and failing to test the Croatian goalkeeper at any point during his 56-minute spell.

After spending the second half of the season on loan at Old Trafford, he will now return to his parent club Burnley for next season.

A number of Manchester United players have been in action tonight on international duty.

In the Women’s Finalissima at Wembley Stadium three United players started, Mary Earps, Alessia Russo and Ella Toone.

Maya Le Tissier was an unused substitute.

It felt like Deja Vu as opening the scoring was Toone in the 23rd minute. It was a brilliant team goal as James found herself in a good position, finding Stanway and Bronze, who had a little one-two before the latter cut it back for Toone who was waiting in the middle to smash it past the keeper.

The elation from both player and manager was clear to see.

England dominated the first half but struggled to wiggle their way through Brazil’s back five.

Russo made some brilliant runs but couldn’t get herself on the score sheet.

In the second half, Brazil were much more dominant as England struggled to keep hold of the ball. It was given away cheaply and Geyse got a powerful shot off but Earps saved well, tipping it over the bar.

The equaliser was always coming though and as Earps spilled, Brazil’s Alves da Silva poked it into the goal in the 93rd minute. The game headed straight to penalties.

Ella Toone missed her penalty but luckily, Mary Earps fantastically saved Brazil’s next, another miss for Brazil and England just had to keep their composure. Chloe Kelly stepped up and scored the winning penalty.

The Lionesses rushed to Earps who had been getting the crowd all fired up and had put in a solid shift throughout the night, you could see what the victory meant to her, she had handled the pressure well.

It was third time lucky for the Lionesses, it’s the first time they’ve won a penalty shoot-out and only the third they’ve ever been involved in.

England will play again on Tuesday where they will face Australia in a friendly, their final game before they join up for the World Cup.
