Former England and Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole claims that he knows how Jadon Sancho and Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag can overcome their dispute while also unlocking the winger’s potential.

The feud in question started when Ten Hag decided to exclude Sancho from the matchday squad set to face Arsenal on September 3rd.

While Ten Hag made it clear that the 23 year old was omitted due to his poor performances in training, Sancho refuted this claim, taking to social media to defend his performances while claiming to have been made a scapegoat at the club.

The former Borussia Dortmund player has since refused to apologise to the United manager or make amends, prompting Ten Hag to exclude Sancho from first team training and even barring him from accessing all first-team facilities.

Yesterday, Sancho was removed from United’s first-team WhatsApp Group which is used to send key updates to all first-team players.

With the player continuously refusing to make amends, the situation has become so severe that Sancho is expected to leave United in January.

United have reportedly approached several clubs in an effort to offload the player, including Real Madrid.

Even though Sancho’s England teammates including Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, and Harry Maguire allegedly failed in their reported attempts to convince him to apologise to Ten Hag, Cole believes that he could indeed remedy the situation.

Cole believes that in order to overcome the dispute, both Sancho and the club need to reach a compromise.

“Jadon Sancho needs nurturing,” Cole commented, adding, “Jadon is a fantastic footballer particularly with the talent and quality he’s got, but he needs a little bit of nurturing and he might need a bit more maturity.”

While Cole admitted that things likely won’t work out for Sancho at United, he went on to say that he would like to speak with the 23 year old and his camp in an effort to guide him through this rough patch and get him back to his best on the field.

Given the history of player fallouts at United, with that of Cristiano Ronaldo still lingering in recent memory, Sancho’s talent alone may not be enough to save his career at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag would do well to remain firm on his stance and send a clear message as to what happens to players who choose to step out of line at United.

Jadon Sancho has been removed from the Manchester United WhatsApp group in the latest twist of his long-term absence from the first-team squad.

Neil Custis (The Sun) reveals the winger has been “axed” from the chat which Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff use to “send key info to first-team players.”

It’s a move which mirrors other attempts made to exile Sancho from the first-team squad.

The 23-year old is “barred” from training with the first-team, instead either playing with the U18s or training individually. Due to safe-guarding protocols, Sancho is forced to use a dressing room on his own when training with the youth team.

He’s also not allowed to use any of the first-team facilities, including the canteen. Sancho is brought his own food in the academy section, courtesy of a takeaway box.

Furthermore, Sancho is unable to park in the senior side car park, being forced to use the academy version.

It’s reported that Ten Hag has demanded an apology from the winger in order for this exclusion from the first-team to end.

Sancho publicly disputed his manager’s explanation for his absence from the match-day squad for the trip to the Emirates in September. Without explicitly saying Ten Hag’s name, the 23-year old took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to infer his manager was lying and attempting to make him a “scapegoat.”

Ten Hag was reported to be furious by this outburst, feeling personally let down by Sancho after all the efforts the Dutchman had made the previous season to help him.

No apology has been made by the winger to his manager since.

An exit in the January transfer window, likely on loan, seems the most logical end to this protacted saga.

]]>

Marcel Sabitzer has revealed the exact reasons why Erik ten Hag is a top coach, revealing the Dutchman to be “a man obsessed with details” and a “perfectionist.”

Speaking to The Athletic in a refreshingly candid interview, the Austrian midfielder reflected on his experience working under Ten Hag during his short-term loan move to Manchester United.

Signed in January in a last-minute deal to buttress the midfield ranks, following news of a long-term injury to Christian Eriksen, Sabitzer reveals he “learned a lot about football” from the Dutch manager.

“You can wake him up at 3 am, he’d tell you his whole match plan by heart. He’s very knowledgeable about football and tactics — a very hard worker, a perfectionist,” Sabitzer described of Ten Hag. This assessment is not a new one for the Dutchman.

Earlier in the summer, a report by The Peoples Person covered sources who indicated Ten Hag’s biggest strength was his conscientious approach and razor-sharp attention to detail.

This mirrors the words of Steve McLaren, who praised Ten Hag’s “meticulous planning” and his commitment to hard work. “Erik is very disciplined and people have to buy into that and have that work ethic,” McLaren revealed to The Telegraph.

It’s natural, therefore, that Sabitzer – a player known for his work rate and application – would enjoy life under such a taskmaster.

The Austrian also praised the forthright nature of Ten Hag’s approach to his players.

“…he’s very straight with you,” Sabitzer reveals. “When I had a bad game, he showed me some situations and told me how to do it better next time. I liked that. You knew where you stood with him.”

The midfielder, now of Borussia Dortmund, also asserts Ten Hag would “never throw you under the bus” when analysing your performance. He would, instead, offer constructive criticism and tell the player to “go out and do better in the next game.”

This perspective on the Dutch manager runs antithetical to the accusations levelled at him by Jadon Sancho, who has not featured in the United first-team squad since early September, following a public dispute with Ten Hag over the winger’s exclusion against Arsenal.

Sancho accused his manager of favouritism and unfair treatment following the Dutchman publicly stating the winger’s poor training performances had led to him being dropped. It is not the first time in Sancho’s career he has been criticised for a lack of application and professionalism.

When factoring in Sabitzer’s words, it appears extremely unlikely Ten Hag dropped Sancho for anything other than the stated reason. And considering the value he places upon hard work, it’s little wonder it didn’t happen sooner.

Sabitzer paints a very complimentary picture of his former manager, at a time when Ten Hag is under immense pressure, following a dismal start to the 2023/24 season. United fans should heed the words of a former pupil of the Dutchman when he describes him as a “very good coach.”

A very good coach facing an almost improbable run of bad luck, either through injury or intervention by VAR. The tide will turn soon; Ten Hag is too much of a perfectionist to not get it right.

Manchester United followed up their Manchester derby defeat with an even more atrocious display, dismantled 0-3 by Newcastle United on Wednesday.

The defending champions’ exit from the Carabao Cup has now compounded matters for manager Erik ten Hag who is facing the heat as sack rumours intensify.

Injuries aside, his big-name players are letting him down consistently as the team grapples with a lack of goals.

Rasmus Hojlund has struggled domestically, which was expected considering his age, while all his wingers have flattered to deceive.

United’s struggles up front exacerbated by Sancho absence

Last season’s top scorer Marcus Rashford has one goal to his name while Antony currently looks like of of United’s worst-ever buys.

Ten Hag could have done with Jadon Sancho’s trickery out wide but the Englishman remains banished from the first team after failing to apologise to the manager.

He was called out by Ten Hag after lacklustre training displays and the winger responded by accusing the manager of favouritism on social media.

The 23-year-old’s stance of not apologising has meant he is unlikely to return to the first XI and a January departure, whether on loan or permanently, looks the likeliest outcome.

A lot of clubs have been mentioned as possible suitors for the England international with former club Borussia Dortmund also in the race.

Recent reports had suggested that the Bundesliga giants are open to a loan move with their own starlet Jamie Bynoe-Gittens heading the other way in a temporary deal.

Sky Sports reporter Christian Falk has since refuted those claims in his column for CaughtOffside.

“Incidentally, Dortmund have heard nothing about Jadon Sancho’s potential swap deal for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, which was reported as a rumour.”

Swap deal off?

The 19-year-old Dortmund star can play on both wings and is touted to be one of the future stars to watch out for.

He remains raw and thus might not be too much of a help to Ten Hag in case of a January arrival. He has one assist so far this season while he scored thrice last term.

Sancho, on the other hand, needs to play in order to be in contention for the Euros and a move to Dortmund makes sense as he flourished in Germany.

If United can recoup a large portion of the initial fee they paid for him, it would be a good deal to complete.

Reports of dressing room unrest at Manchester United and a rift between players and manager can no longer be considered mischief-making by the press.

Despite a heartfelt interview by Scott McTominay yesterday insisting everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet, report after report is emerging about discontent and the most damning of all comes from the most trustworthy source of all, The Athletic.

The football-specialist outlet is well-known for its reliability and whilst that does not make it right 100% of the time, if The Athletic says something is happening, it usually is.

On reports of dressing room dissatisfaction with the manager, The Athletic says “there is a growing feeling of unrest within the squad, with some players beginning to lose faith in him.” Several reasons are cited:

  • “Ten Hag’s intensity, which was widely lauded and seen as a positive last season, is now being viewed as a problem.”
  • Ten Hag’s press conference comment that he substituted Casemiro at half time against Brentford because he wanted to “play more football” “did not go down well inside the dressing room.”
  • The report also states that there were “raised eyebrows” at the manager’s decision to play Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans ahead of Raphael Varane for the Manchester derby.
  • Ten Hag’s handling of Jadon Sancho, who has been exiled after criticising his manager on social media, has also not gone down well with some players.
  • Harry Maguire is also said to have been “bruised by efforts to get rid of him in the summer.”
  • Ten Hag is accused of “lacking charisma” by the players, none of whom he has a good personal relationship with.

Despite all this, The Athletic says that while there is no longer “universal confidence in his abilities among those with connections to United,” Ten Hag’s job is probably safe for now.

The club’s imminent investment from INEOS means that the decision to hire or fire the Dutchman is likely to be put on hold until the new decision makers are in place.

The Athletic’s report corroborates that of The MEN’s Samuel Luckhurst, who said that “doubts are growing [among the players] over Erik ten Hag’s management.”

What is even more concerning in that report is that it claims there is “simmering resentment among certain players towards teammates.”

According to The Sun, Ten Hag “has ordered his players to have one-to-one sessions with him to mend Manchester United’s broken dressing room.”

Whether he will be able to repair the damage and rebuild the team harmony that was so refreshing to see last season remains to be seen.

Manchester United’s struggles at the start of Erik ten Hag’s second season in charge at Old Trafford have come in the shape of issues both on and off the field.

Losing over half of their opening 15 games has left United out of the Carabao Cup, out of a title race and behind the eight ball in their Champions League group.

Jadon Sancho has also provided Ten Hag with a major headache, having not featured for the club since the start of September.

The public spat between the pair over Sancho’s level in training has left the wingers’ future at Old Trafford hanging by a thread.

Sancho has refused to apologise for publicly refuting his manager’s claims on social media and it appears Ten Hag has washed his hands of the former Dortmund man.

United are now looking for a resolution to the issue with a major asset essentially gathering dust, having been banished from the first team altogether.

Spanish media outlet Fichajes have reported that Real Madrid are one of the teams United have offered Sancho’s services.

The 23-year-old is likely to leave Old Trafford on loan in January with United hoping he strikes some kind of form for them to be able to recoup as much of the €85 million they paid for him, at the end of the season.

However, Fichajes also say that Madrid aren’t looking to add a player of such a profile to their ranks in the winter unless they suffer an injury crisis in attacking areas.

With two months still remaining until the winter window swings into action, United do have time to find a resolution to the saga but Sancho’s value is decreasing by the week.

Furthermore, he is still picking up his whopping £350k-a-week wage packet without kicking a ball for the club.

If United’s horrible form and performances continue it may even be a case that Sancho outlasts Ten Hag at United and the player could be handed another fresh start.

However, as it stands, Sancho is looking for pastures new in January and remains unlikely to feature for United under the current regime.

Manchester United are on a torrid run of form this season and their latest 0-3 loss at the hands of Manchester City in the Manchester derby heaped further pressure on manager Erik ten Hag.

The 20-time English league champions have the chance to regain some momentum as they face Newcastle United in the pre-quarters of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, in a repeat of last season’s final.

The Dutchman was praised in his debut campaign for his strong man-management which saw several players improve while the team employed a discernible pattern of play that pleased fans and neutrals alike.

ETH deserves criticism

However, this campaign has been marred by underperforming stars and a lack of style from the team with the team looking like they are playing together for the first time.

Off-field controversies have not helped with many in the squad said to be unhappy with Ten Hag’s hardline approach involving Jadon Sancho.

The manager was lauded for his handling of the Cristiano Ronaldo saga last campaign but things seem to be backfiring at present.

Sancho remains close with a number of first-team players and while many are not too pleased with his refusal to apologise, they feel a more considerate approach could have been employed.

“Manchester United players fear head coach Erik ten Hag’s abrupt approach is affecting squad harmony.

“Ten Hag has built a no-nonsense reputation since arriving at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 – and has had issues with a number of players since his appointment, most recently Jadon Sancho.

“The hardline Dutchman has been applauded for the way he has ruthlessly dealt with a number of issues involving high profile members of his squad over the past 18 months.

High time players stop moaning

“However, Mail Sport has learned that figures within the United squad believe Ten Hag’s handling of certain individuals has had a negative impact on team togetherness.”

The Daily Mail have also claimed his tactical tweaks which included playing Jonny Evans in the derby instead of Raphael Varane also surprised the squad.

While Ten Hag should not be immune from criticism, it must also be remembered that similar stories have emerged in the aftermath of a poor run of form during the reigns of Ralf Rangnick, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal.

These players have thrown multiple managers under the bus and the current scenario might not be too different. The manager must buck up and the players should stop whining and get on with their jobs. After all, they are playing for the biggest club in the world.

Manchester United succumbed to yet another disappointing defeat, this time at the hands of cross-town rivals Manchester City 0-3 in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

Manager Erik ten Hag looked bereft of ideas as the entire team put in a cowardly performance at Old Trafford with the attacking quartet yet again looking dire.

The performance of Marcus Rashford was a particular lowlight while Antony’s introduction saw the Brazilian do nothing positive of note except stir up problems.

United have a lack of firepower with Sancho still banished

The Dutchman’s options from the bench look limited as well with hardly any explosive wingers at his disposal while Jadon Sancho remains banished.

The Englishman could have been a great option to have, either from the start or as a substitute, but the winger’s refusal to apologise means a parting of ways in January is seen as the most likely outcome.

A lot of sides including former club Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, teams from Saudi Arabia and even a few surprising names in England are all eyeing a January move.

Now as per Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the 23-year-old as they look to continue their winning momentum which has seen them climb to the top of the Premier League table.

The move will also be beneficial for Sancho, who is desperate to regain his place in Gareth Southgate’s England team ahead of the European Championships next year.

The Red Devils had paid €85 million for the England international’s services back in 2021 but his poor form and lack of minutes has meant a drastic drop in valuation.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are said to be considering paying €35 million for the former City academy graduate, a figure which will see United take a huge hit on their initial investment.

Spurs eyeing cut-price Sancho deal

“Tottenham, current leader of the Premier League, has aroused great interest in the world of football by showing its determined intention to sign Jadon Sancho.

“The Manchester United player, looking for a new opportunity to regain his form before the Euro Cup and the World Cup, could be the key piece to strengthen the Spurs attack and stay at the top of the league.

“The England international’s market value is estimated at around €35 million, a figure that Tottenham are seriously considering.”

But with Ten Hag desperate for funds and to remove Sancho from the squad, a move could yet happen. Ideally, United should send him out on loan and hope for him to regain his form so as to sell him for a more lucrative deal.

Manchester United’s incredible fanbase stretches far and wide, with supporters getting behind the team from all around the globe.

Generations of fans have grown up supporting the famous club, some of whom are now plying their trade in the Premier League.

Speaking to the Sky Sports YouTube channel, West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen has revealed he was one of those influenced by the United side, with one man in-particular inspiring him to travel to Old Trafford as a boy.

“I loved David Beckham growing up. I used to go to games after school, I remember I used to leave at about 4pm from Hereford and then go to the games,” said Bowen.

Bowen has enjoyed a remarkable rise to the Premier League, having moved to West Ham from Hull City in the winter of 2020.

The forward has been in fine form since his arrival in London, scoring the winner in The Hammer’s Europa Conference final last season and earning a place in the England squad.

There are no rumours to suggest Bowen will secure his dream move to United but should his excellent performances continue, who knows where his journey may take him.

West Ham teammate Michael Antonio recently warned off any potential suitors by slapping a £60 million price tag on Bowen’s head.

“He’s English, scores goals for fun. If he’s going it’s got to be £60 million,” said Antonio.

The Peoples Person recently reported that Bowen could soon be joined by a current United player at his current side, with West Ham monitoring the availability of Jadon Sancho.

Sancho hasn’t played for United since his social media outburst against Erik ten Hag last month and is expected to leave the club in January.

Meanwhile, Bowen will hope for another strong showing at home to Everton tomorrow (Sunday) with United facing Manchester City in a mouth-watering Derby at Old Trafford.

Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho remains out in the cold at Old Trafford and a move in January looks a likely outcome to the saga.

Sancho has been training away from the first-team since his social media outburst toward manager Erik ten Hag, who left the player out of the trip to Arsenal last month.

Ten Hag cited a dip in Sancho’s performances in training as the reason for his omission on the day, something the 23-year-old vehemently denied.

The Englishman has since refused to apologise for his part in the spat and club and player are now set for a parting of the ways.

Italian giants Juventus have emerged as a possible destination for the forward but as reported by Sport Witness, the finances behind the deal could prove tricky.

It looks as though a loan deal is to be the most viable offer placed on the table by Juve, with funds tight in Turin.

Sancho is on a huge wage at Old Trafford and Max Allegri’s men are likely to require United to cover a chunk of his contract should he make the move.

“Manchester United would need to give a ‘big helping hand’ for that to happen. The Red Devils would need to continue to pay a ‘large part’ of Sancho’s wages while he plays for the Serie A side,” say Sport Witness.

United are keen for a resolution to the situation with a major asset sitting on the sidelines.

Sancho has failed to hit the heights expected of him since his mega-money move from Dortmund in the summer of 2021 and will hope to reignite his career away from the club.

United parted with £72million to acquire the services of a player who lit up the Bundesliga during his time in the famous Black and Yellow shirt.

However, inconsistency on the pitch and further struggles off it have left Sancho failing to live up to his billing and looking likely to have played his last game for United.
